Shatta Wale Urges GFA to Recall Dede Ayew After Black Stars Defeats

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has expressed frustration following the Black Stars’ disappointing performances in recent international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

In a video shared on X on March 30, 2026, the outspoken musician, speaking during a live TikTok session, called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and other relevant authorities to include former captain André Ayew, popularly known as Dede Ayew, in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

According to him, Ayew’s experience and strong on-field chemistry with his brother, Jordan Ayew, could play a crucial role in improving the team’s overall performance and morale.

“They [GFA] have to include Dede Ayew in the World Cup team. We are pleading, it’s not by force, but we are begging that he should be part of the team. We are kneeling… so he can support Jordan because of their strong connection. When they are on the pitch, they uplift the entire team. I am very devastated about all this,” he said.

Shatta Wale did not hold back in his criticism of the team, questioning the players’ ambition and commitment on the international stage.

“Black Stars, let me ask you something: do you want to compete for the World Cup or something else? If it’s something else, I would understand because it seems we are not used to winning trophies. Maybe they should create a ‘World Bottle’ for you to compete in. Don’t you drink water at all, or do you want a ‘World Spoon’?” he joked.

His comments come in the aftermath of Ghana’s heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria and a 2–1 loss to Germany, results that have triggered widespread backlash from fans and stakeholders.

The debate over André Ayew’s potential return has intensified in recent months, with many supporters divided over whether the veteran forward should be reintegrated into the squad. While some argue that his leadership and experience remain invaluable, others believe the team should focus on building a younger core ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As discussions continue, pressure is mounting on the GFA and the technical team to make decisive choices that will strengthen the squad and restore confidence among fans ahead of the global tournament.
